Burn The Fat Journey: Calculations
First things first, I need to calculate my Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR – the rate at which your body burns calories naturally, while resting). To do so I’m going to follow a simple formula:
For men: RMR = 66 + (12.7 x height) + (6.27 x weight) – (6.8 x age)
For women: RMR = 655 + (4.57 x height) + (4.36 x weight) – (4.7 x age)
- Height: 67 inches tall (i know, i’m small)
- Weight: 130 lbs
- Age: 21 years
My RMR = 655 + 306.9 + 566.8 – 98.7= 1,430
Now I need to multiply my total with my level of activity – 1.3 (sedentary), 1.4 (moderately active), or 1.5 (very active).
1,420 x 1.3 = 1,859
Now, to lose fat… you must have a caloric deficit of at least 3,500 calories/week.

I’ve been a fitness freak since I can remember, however… in my younger years I suffered with an eating disorder called Anorexia. I struggled to battle this disease incessantly from the tender ages of 12-18.
The anorexia was brought on by a slew of variables, mainly the teasing I received as a child in school for being chunky. Yes, I was fat. However, nearing the wiser age of 19, I purchased a book called “Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle” by Tom Venuto.
This book stirred a momentous change in the manner with which I identified with food. BFFM, restored my certitude and respect for food. For the first time, in a very very long time, I intimately comprehended the actuality that “food” was my key to a fit and healthy body.
I would love to profess overcoming the disorder, albeit, a fragment of it will forever haunt me… perpetually nestled in the depths of my mind. There are still days where I am tempted to starve myself in hopes of producing that euphoric “light” feeling. This is something I will be fighting for the rest of my life, day by day, in small battles. Everyday I abstain from starving myself, I’ve won.
Despite the disorder, I am no toothpick. Years of starving myself, thus damaging my metabolism, has created a body that clings to fat whenever possible… in fear of starvation and death.

Speed Eating and Fat Loss:
Diet Advice Your Mom Was Right About All Along!
A new study just published in a recent issue of the journal Obesity has revealed that thin people eat very differently than heavy people at all-you-can-eat buffet restaurants.
Researcher Brian Wansink and his team from the Cornell University Food and Brand Laboratory observed diners at 11 different Chinese buffet restaurants across the United States.
Their goal was to find out whether the eating behaviors of people at all-you-can-eat buffets varied based on their body mass.
